Great news came from an undergraduate Biology students at Universitas Airlangga, Aulia Azzahra, Dimas Aryq Ijlal Wafi, and Febriani Sukma Maghfirotul Chasanah. The article they wrote under the guidance of Almando Geraldi, S.Si., Ph.D. was accepted and presented in an international conference, Makara International Colloquium of Science (MiCS) 2019 that was held in University of Indonesia in Depok, West Java on 11 April 2019.
In that conference, the students presented their article in English. The article titled “Isolation and Identification of Thermophilic Bacillus mycoides from Cangar Hot Springs” was written based on the results they obtained during Training and Development of Field Research (P3L). During that activity, the research group consisting of three students acquired Bacillus mycoides isolates that can grow in the temperature of 600C and have many potentials in bioindustry. The better news is that the article of the three students was the only article in that conference that was written by undergraduate students. The article received many recommendations, particularly from lecturers of University of Indonesia to be published in an international scientific journal later.
This achievement is expected to be able to increase confidence and motivate other undergraduate students of Biology at Universitas Airlangga to conduct researches, present them in conferences, and publish the article in scientific journals, both national and international.
