Dr. Junairiah, a lecturer in the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Airlangga University, contributed to The 15th Korea–ASEAN Joint Symposium (KAJS) 2026 through a poster presentation titled “Artocarpus altilis (Breadfruit): A Potential Source of Natural Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Compounds.” This participation is part of the FST at Airlangga University’s efforts to showcase research findings focused on utilizing Indonesia’s biodiversity as a source of high-value bioactive compounds. Through this international forum, the research findings were presented to academics and researchers from various countries, while also opening opportunities for research collaboration in the fields of biotechnology and natural products.
The study examined the potential of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) as a source of natural compounds with antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. The secondary metabolites found in breadfruit are considered to hold promise for development as raw materials for health products, functional foods, and more environmentally friendly natural antimicrobial agents. Dr. Junairiah’s participation in KAJS 2026 reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at Airlangga University to promoting research based on local biodiversity so that it can make a tangible contribution to the advancement of science, biotechnology innovation, and the sustainable use of biological resources.
